Day 3 for the rescue!

So, it's day 3 and our rescue is doing amazingly! Colby has named her McKinley - which will make my dad smile to himself. She has been roaming the house, very skittish of sounds and people walking by. She did wag her tail for about 30 seconds this morning when I came to get her to take her outside. She is letting John pet her now, and is even coming up to him - slowly - for him to pet her. When in the fence this morning, she ran for a minute with Buddy, trying to play with him. She seems to be bonding with me, following me from room to room and laying on the floor wherever I go. I let her smell Christian - watching her VERY closely - and I let him touch her. He closed his little fat fingers around the hair on her face and he pulled! She didn't flinch. She still hides under our table or behind the rocker most of the day. . . and I can't get her to eat much at all . . . but she's come around enough in such a short time that I have hope for her. I was worried that she was so far shut down that she wouldn't want to come back. But she does. She's trying her hardest to trust and come back!

The rescue group that we have been working with pays the bills. . . and said that because we had her shaved, it will be a while before anyone will want to adopt her. So, as long as she shows NO agression towards anything, she'll be with us for a while.

Rescue Dog Day 2

So, we took the puppy to the vet. Turns out she's a girl. . . spayed. . . and very, very skinny. Who knew, under all that hair. They sewed her cuts up and had to shave her down, she was so matted. She seems to feel so much better. She hides from us under our deck . . . but has never shown any aggression to us. I spoke to the vet at length and he said that she never even flinched when he messed with her cuts and hair. I really think that animals who are rescued are grateful. All of my animals who were rescues have been such good animals. We'll see how she does. Colby is about the only one she feels ok with. She must be able to tell that Colby has such a great heart!

Our newest rescue

This is our newest rescue dog. Just in time for Ellie the foster dog to find her new home. . . we get a call about this baby girl. She was severely, severely abused by some teenage boys. She is so matted that she can barely move. She must be in a great deal of pain! She has some deep cuts on her head and her leg. She is so afraid that John had to pick her up to get her out of the car. . . and then had to carry her into our fence. She hasn't moved since. I can't even imagine why people want to feel powerful by hurting animals like this. There's a special level of hell for these boys. . . I'm sure of it. She seems to respond to Colby. . . and seems to feel more comfortable around Buddy and our cat, Sophie. I'm so sad for her. . . I can't even express it.

She says the greatest stuff!!!

We got Colby a new bed set and comforter, painted her room some crazy colors, moved all of her furniture around. . . the whole "now I'm in 1st grade" routine. So she says to me, "I want to show Mimi and Papa my new comfortable".

I couldn't bare to correct her. I hope she says it again!!!

Crazy little girl say what?!

Colby needed to cut some stuff out of construction paper for her project at school
- so she says to me, "mom, i really need the instruction paper!"

Last night i was giving her a bath and she said out of nowhere - "you
know I'm going to marry Dalton now and not Ethan." I said, "oh, you
are? Why?" She said with the most serious face ever, "because I'm in
love with him and I'm not in love with Ethan anymore."

WHAT!!!!!!!!!?????????? I had to immediately run out of the bathroom
and find John so i could laugh my head off!!!! SHE'S FIVE!!!!!!!!!

What the?????

Either that's not Christian, or I need more sleep!
